Where were you?

Minton Hall (formerly Central Hall), Western Kentucky University--photo millermz (Flickr)

I was leaving my dorm room in Central Hall on my way to class. Only 18 years old, a freshman at Western Kentucky University. I spent the afternoon at the sorority house with my sisters glued to the TV. Glued was the only reaction I had. Disbelief...I'm still am in disbelief.

It's hard to believe that just 8 years ago, 3 planes crashed into the World Trade Center buildings and the Pentagon. It's still so fresh in my memory. I pray today for those who lost loved ones, that gave their life to rescue those who had survived as well as those who perished and especially those who are fighting overseas to protect our great nation.

Today is Patriot Day. Fly that flag out in front of your house (Screw the neighborhood association that will fine you for doing so...others are paying a much heavier price for you to fly that flag!) Lift up a prayer to God. Be proud that you are an American. Remember and don't ever forget that freedom is not free.

Alice, your post gave me chills. I remember sitting in the KD TV room watching it with everyone. I still can't believe it - it still seems like yesterday.

Great post, and great reminder. I will never forget that day either. The world changed that day, and all of a sudden we, as teenagers, were thrust into a world that we thought was in the past, of deaths and war and fighting...all of a sudden, the past became more tangible, and not in a good way...
